Extrême droite: Jobbik présente un candidat juif à la mairie de Miskolc!
Jewish Chronicle Jobbik fields Jew for mayor
Hungary's Jewish leaders have hit out at a decision by antisemitic party Jobbik to field a local election candidate with Jewish ancestry.
Péter Jakab announced his candidacy for mayor of the north-eastern town of Miskolc in late May, while also revealing that his mother's family was Jewish. He added that he was not practising.
The Chief Rabbi for the United Hungarian Jewish Community, Slomó Köves, said: "It's never too late to regret it and repent."
Fielding a candidate with Jewish heritage is unprecedented for the far-right party. However, in 2012, Jobbik MEP Csanád Szegedi, who is also from Miskolc, was forced to resign from the party after it was revealed that he was part-Jewish.
